UIN Ar-Raniry Proposes Additional KIP Kuliah Quota to Bappenas

UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh has proposed an increase in the recipient quota and a rise in the living cost component of the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) Kuliah programme to the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas).

Wakil Rektor III of UIN Ar-Raniry, Prof Mursyid Djawas, stated that the KIP Kuliah programme has made a significant contribution to expanding access to higher education for students from underprivileged families at the university. The proposal was submitted during a monitoring and evaluation session on the implementation of KIP Kuliah held at the university’s rectorate meeting room in Banda Aceh.

He noted that between 2020 and 2025, a total of 2,805 students received the scholarship. Currently active recipients include 400 students from the 2022 cohort, 600 from 2023, 550 from 2024, and 400 from 2025. According to Prof Mursyid, the number of recipients is still not proportional to the high number of eligible students in need. ‘We hope the recipient quota can be increased so that more students can benefit from this programme,’ he said.

The university believes the amount of financial assistance needs to be adjusted to reflect the real costs students face during their studies. UIN Ar-Raniry also proposed that children of low-income civil servants (ASN), military personnel, and police officers should continue to have access to KIP Kuliah, provided they meet the government’s economic criteria.

Prof Mursyid added that an increase in the number of recipients must be accompanied by strengthened coaching through language proficiency programmes, soft skill development, and continuous academic monitoring. This is to ensure scholarship recipients can complete their studies on time and remain competitive after graduation.
