UIN Ar-Raniry Professor Ranked No 1 Among the World’s Top Scientists
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) – Professor Muhammad Siddiq Armia of the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) at UIN Ar-Raniry, representing Indonesia’s state Islamic higher education institutions (PTKIN), has ranked first in the 2026 Stanford University–Elsevier list of the world’s top 2 per cent of scientists.
“Alhamdulillah, our name has again been included in the 2026 list of the world’s top 2 per cent of scientists. This year’s ranking is better than last year’s,” Siddiq said in a statement received in Banda Aceh on Sunday.
He said that, alongside him, Professor Mursyid Djawas, also from UIN Ar-Raniry’s Faculty of Sharia and Law, had made the list. In total, seven UIN academics from across Indonesia were included in the ranking.
In ranking order, they are Siddiq Armia, Mursyid Djawas, Hariyanto (UIN Purwokerto), Saiful Mujani (UIN Jakarta), Khairunnisa Musari (UIN Jember), Maila DH Rehiem (UIN Jakarta) and Habibis Saleh (UIN Riau).
Siddiq said he regularly passes on world-class knowledge to young academics and students, particularly skills in writing and publishing in international journals.
A graduate of MAN Beureunuen, he is often invited to teach or examine doctoral dissertations at leading universities in the UK, Morocco, the UAE, Qatar, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia and other countries.
From late August to September 2026, Siddiq represented Indonesia at a global scientific meeting at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, alongside academics from 20 countries. He also visited the UK Parliament’s House of Lords.
Muhammad Siddiq Armia completed his undergraduate degree at UIN Ar-Raniry’s Faculty of Sharia and Law in 2000, his master’s degree at the University of Indonesia in 2004, and his doctorate at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, UK, in 2016. His doctoral dissertation compared constitutional courts in different countries, including Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court.
His specialisation is international constitutional law. His work has appeared in various prestigious international journals and has been cited thousands of times by academics across countries.
In 2025, the Takengon-born academic, from Central Aceh, also appeared on the same list.
