UIN Alauddin Students Equipped with Social Security Literacy Before Entering the Workforce
The National Social Security Council (DJSN) together with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, BPJS Kesehatan, and Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Alauddin Makassar are strengthening the implementation of the social security curriculum through public lectures. This collaboration is a strategic step to enhance social security literacy and instil an understanding of the importance of the social protection system among students as they prepare to enter the workforce.
DJSN member Muttaqien stated that early literacy in social security is crucial. “Higher education institutions have a strategic role in broadening early understanding of the importance of employment social security. Through curriculum strengthening and academic activities like public lectures, students are expected to grasp the significance of employment social security protection,” he said. Muttaqien added that students who understand the benefits of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan early on will be better prepared to enter the workforce, knowing that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan protects them from occupational risks.
During the event, DJSN member Royanto Purba, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Director of Human Capital and General Affairs Harjono Siswanto, and Director of Human Resources and General Affairs Vetty Yulianty Permanasari delivered lecture materials. Harjono presented on how Employment Social Security protects and guarantees the future, emphasising that every job carries risks that can occur at any time. He explained that the state is present through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to provide comprehensive protection via five programmes: Work Accident Insurance (JKK), Old Age Security (JHT), Pension Security (JP), Death Security (JKM), and Job Loss Insurance (JKP).
“We believe social security literacy must be instilled early during college years. Students not only understand the concept of social protection in the classroom but also benefit from it when entering the workforce, including during internships and community service programmes (KKN). Thus, when they enter the professional world, the awareness to become BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants has already been cultivated,” Harjono stated. He also informed the media that students participating in internship and KKN programmes are already protected by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan under the JKK and JKM programmes, ensuring they are covered if any risks occur during these activities.
A Cooperation Agreement (PKS) was also signed between the Deputy of Learning and Development of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and the Dean of UIN Alauddin Makassar as a follow-up to their existing collaboration. This agreement serves as the foundation for implementing various collaborative programmes, including integrating employment social security materials into the curriculum, organising internship and KKN programmes that provide social security protection for students, and implementing a practitioner teaching programme that brings BPJS Ketenagakerjaan professionals to share practical experience and insights within the academic environment.
The collaboration between DJSN, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, BPJS Kesehatan, and UIN Alauddin Makassar demonstrates that strengthening the National Social Security System (SJSN) requires cross-sector synergy. By building understanding from the college level, the aim is to cultivate a culture of social security awareness early on and support the realisation of an inclusive employment ecosystem.
