Students from the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) held a demonstration in the Titik Nol Jogja area this afternoon. They voiced six specific demands, with economic issues serving as the primary focus.

Observations at Titik Nol Jogja this afternoon showed hundreds of UII students arriving around 13:02, wearing blue alma mater jackets and gathering in a circle. They expressed deep concerns regarding Indonesia’s current economic condition.

The protest, themed ‘Towards a Bankrupt Indonesia’, reflects the students’ view that the current economic climate is becoming increasingly difficult for the public, ranging from the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate to the difficulty of obtaining subsidised fuel.

The Chairman of the Student Representative Council (DPM) of the UII Faculty of Law, Muhammad Radin Nabil Akbar, stated that they intentionally made economic issues the main focus of the action.

“In this protest, we are bringing six demands, but we are focused on the economy. As our theme suggests, it is towards a bankrupt Indonesia,” said Radin when met during the protest on Monday (15/06/2026).

According to him, the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate has the potential to create a chain reaction that directly impacts the community.

“One of the issues we are raising is the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate. This ultimately creates a domino effect, leading to increased fuel prices,” he said.

Furthermore, Radin highlighted the issue of the distribution of subsidised fuel, which is deemed to still be causing difficulties for the public.

“We can see how difficult it is to obtain subsidised Pertalite at this time,” he continued.

In addition to economic issues, Radin mentioned that students are also bringing several other demands related to the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme, government communication patterns, and the reform of the National Police (Polri).

According to Radint, the formation of a police reform team previously announced by the government must be accompanied by concrete steps. He also touched upon several policies that are deemed to lack optimal public participation.

“In the end, we see how these laws are passed without the involvement of the community. This lacks meaningful participation,” he said.

Radin also expressed concern regarding the job market, which is seen as becoming increasingly difficult. Amidst economic pressure, many workers are reportedly experiencing layoffs (PHK).

“We feel disadvantaged because, currently, the general public is finding it difficult to secure employment. Especially with the current economic situation, many labourers or workers are being laid off,” he said.

The following are the demands of the UII student protest at Titik Nol Jogja:

  1. Demand the total cessation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) and the Red and White Village Cooperative (Kopdes).

  2. Lower the price of fuel and basic commodities.

  3. Demand that the government improve the management of fiscal policy and state finances.

  4. Demand clarity on the progress of the Indonesian National Police reform and the revision of the Police Law.

  5. Stop militarism in the civilian sphere.

  6. Demand improvements in government communication patterns and an acknowledgement of mistakes.
