Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) marked its 83rd Milad by conducting social outreach in Ngemplak sub-district, Sleman Regency, including a house renovation programme and the distribution of sembako to residents. The activities were a collaboration between Lazis UNISIA under the Yayasan Badan Wakaf UII, the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM) of UII, the Milad 83 committee, and the Ngemplak government. UII provided funds for home repairs for the less advantaged and distributed social assistance comprising 200 sembako packages.

‘Praise be to God, UII together with Ngemplak residents carried out two activities, namely house renovation and social service. The programme was made possible thanks to support from many parties, especially Lazis UNISIA, which will also accompany further empowerment programmes,’ said Rector Fathul Wahid on Thursday (5/3/2026). The programme carries an empowerment ethos so that recipients can become more independent and self-reliant in the future. He added that university social activities can support government efforts to improve welfare, especially in poverty alleviation and housing quality improvements. He hoped the programme doesn’t stop at aid but continues with community empowerment.

During the event, Lazis UNISIA distributed 200 sembako packages to residents from five kelurahan in Ngemplak. The assistance is expected to help meet community needs while reflecting the UII academic community’s care for the environment.

Sleman Regent Harda Kiswaya in her remarks expressed appreciation for UII initiating these social activities in Ngemplak. She said the programme is not just a milestone ceremony but a tangible expression of social concern and responsibility by the university toward the community. She invited UII to continue aligning its programmes with the strategic efforts of Sleman Regency, particularly in poverty alleviation and improving housing quality. ‘We open wide the space for collaboration and synergy, so every programme implemented can reinforce each other and deliver broader and sustainable impacts for Sleman residents,’ she said.
