UI will get a new psychologist
Semiati Ibnu Umar, 58, a senior lecturer at the School of Psychology at the University of Indonesia, will be inducted as a doctor on Wednesday.
Semiati will defend her doctoral thesis at an induction ceremony at the university new campus in Depok, a suburb south of Jakarta.
Her doctoral thesis is entitled Individual Variables Used in the Prediction of Transmigrants' Success, the public relations office of the university said yesterday.
With her promotion, she will become the fifth doctor to be promoted by Indonesia's largest university this year.
Born in 1936 in Cirebon, West Java, Semiati finished her primary and secondary schools in her hometown and obtained her S1 degree on veterinary at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) in 1963. She later studied psychology at the University of Indonesia and obtained master's degree in 1964.
Semiati has conducted a number of research projects, including an investigation into the standardization of psychological tests for professionals workers.
She is a member of the Indonesian Psychologists's Association, the Association of Psychology and Education in Asia and the Association of Indonesian Ergonomists. (arf)
