Depok (ANTARA) - Students from the University of Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Programme, grouped as Team Impacta, have introduced an environmentally friendly baby nappy at the Spark Up Challenge 2026 business plan competition organised by the Indonesian Banking School.

Team Impacta consists of Fairuz Syarapina from the Insurance and Actuarial Administration study programme, Dede Nawa from the Taxation Administration study programme, and Ivena Hawa Tunaya from the Multimedia Broadcasting study programme.

“We are presenting an innovation in baby nappies made from 100 percent biodegradable materials, equipped with a special disposal bag to help accelerate the decomposition process of nappy waste,” Fairuz Syarapina said in Depok on Friday.

She explained that the idea arose from the awareness that environmental issues require real contributions from various sectors, including the baby products industry.

“We see that nappy waste is a significant contributor to rubbish and takes a very long time to decompose. Through this innovation, we want to offer a more environmentally friendly alternative without compromising the product’s function and comfort for users,” Fairuz said.

Beyond offering a solution to environmental problems, the innovation developed by Team Impacta also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production, which encourages waste reduction and the use of more sustainable products.

The journey to the competition was not easy. Team Impacta had to go through various selection stages, from registration, preparing and submitting a Business Model Canvas, proposal selection, to the final presentation and pitching deck.

During the preparation process, they were also required to conduct in-depth research on sustainability issues and the baby products industry, areas outside their main fields of study.

These challenges proved to be a valuable experience for the three students. Cross-disciplinary collaboration allowed them to combine analytical skills, business planning, and communication strategies to develop a comprehensive solution.

Through this process, they not only broadened their knowledge but also honed their teamwork skills.

“This competition provided a new perspective that the knowledge we learn in lectures can be applied to address various social and environmental issues. We learned that analytical skills, risk management, and business strategy formulation can be integrated to produce innovations that are not only economically valuable but also have a positive impact on society and the environment,” Fairuz said.
