Universitas Indonesia has stated that the temporary suspension of 16 students from the Faculty of Law (FH) is not the final sanction. This suspension is part of the administrative process for examining the alleged sexual harassment case involving the 16 students. “This temporary suspension is not a form of final sanction, but rather part of the administrative process for the examination,” said UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Relations, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026). UI emphasises that it upholds the presumption of innocence, justice, and the protection of individual rights during the process. During the suspension period, the students are not permitted to participate in any academic activities. “During the suspension period, the suspects are not permitted to participate in all educational activities and teaching and learning processes,” said Erwin. “This includes lectures, academic guidance, or other activities related to academic matters,” he continued. In addition, they are not allowed on campus premises, except for examination purposes by UI’s Task Force on Prevention and Handling of Violence (PPK) or urgent needs under university supervision. UI also restricts the students’ involvement in student organisation activities. Intensive supervision is carried out to prevent interaction with victims or witnesses during the examination process. “This step is taken as part of the university’s commitment to ensure the examination process runs objectively,” said Erwin. The Task Force has officially recommended the temporary freezing of the students’ academic status. “This recommendation is part of the follow-up steps to ensure the examination process runs optimally, objectively, and fairly,” he said.
