Universitas Indonesia (UI) has achieved a proud international milestone by ranking within the top 15 globally at the ‘Emerald Excellence Awards 2026’, presented by Emerald Publishing.
UI Rector, Heri Hermansyah, expressed his appreciation for this achievement in a statement on Sunday. He noted that this achievement proves that the UI academic community is not only actively utilising global scientific information sources but is also productive in generating works recognised worldwide. He added that the award from Emerald serves as tangible evidence of UI’s commitment to strengthening research culture, improving publication quality, and ensuring academic contributions that impact both national and international societies.
UI received the High Usage Award 202<0xA0>6 after ranking 14th in the world based on the level of utilisation of Emerald’s journal collections and scientific information sources throughout 2025. Additionally, UI earned the High Research Output Award 2026, ranking 3rd in Indonesia for its contribution of 39 publications, including journal articles and books, published through Emerald during 2025.
Emerald Publishing was founded in 1967 by a group of academics at the University of Bradford, UK, with a mission to provide access to relevant and impactful research. Currently, Emerald is known as one of the leading academic publishers focusing on management, social sciences, education, and applied sciences, with an international network that supports cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The Emerald Excellence Awards are annual awards presented to institutions and researchers for extraordinary contributions to academic research. Award categories include the High Usage Award, given to institutions with the highest usage rates of journal collections, and the High Research Output Award, which highlights the largest publication contributions. These awards aim to appreciate impactful research, strengthen the global visibility of scientific works, and encourage international collaboration in the development of science.
This achievement reaffirms UI’s position as a world-class university that serves not only as an active user of global scientific information sources but also as a significant contributor to international academic publications. By securing a place in the top 15 globally for Emerald journal usage, UI further strengthens its reputation as a research and learning centre with real impact, in line with its vision of being ‘Excellent & Impactful for Indonesia’.
