UI Student Body to Protest Tomorrow, Demanding Resolution of 11-Year-Old Akseyna Death Case
The University of Indonesia’s Student Executive Board (BEM UI) will stage an action at the UI Library Circle Garden in Depok on Thursday (2 April 2026) to demand resolution of the death of student Akseyna Ahad Dori.
“BEM UI will hold a commemoration action for the Akseyna case at the UI Library tomorrow,” said the Coordinator for Social and Political Affairs (Koorbid Sospol) of BEM UI 2026, Muhammad Hafidz Haernanda, in his statement on Wednesday (1 April 2026).
The student action is being held to mark the 11th anniversary of Akseyna’s death, which remains a mystery to this day.
Akseyna was found dead on 26 March 2015 at Lake Kenanga, UI. Over 11 years, the case’s development has been described as progressing slowly.
According to Hafidz, the latest commitment from the Depok Metropolitan Police in 2024 was to provide Notification Letters on Case Progress (SP2HP) every three months.
“In reality, the SP2HP has only been issued three times: on 24 October 2022, 14 June 2024, and 25 October 2024,” Hafidz said.
On 26 March 2026, BEM UI submitted a request letter for the SP2HP to the Depok Metropolitan Police.
BEM eventually met with Deputy Chief of Police AKBP Akmal and the Head of Criminal Investigation at the Depok Metropolitan Police.
In that meeting, BEM demanded that the fourth SP2HP be provided no later than 1 April 2026.
The Depok Metropolitan Police promised to deliver it no later than 4 April 2026.
However, the Deputy Chief of Police and the Head of Criminal Investigation only provided normative updates without clear certainty.
The police stated that the Akseyna case has not yet been determined as a criminal act, even though in 2015 it was once classified as murder.
BEM UI emphasised that this commemoration action also serves as a form of pressure for the police to seriously resolve the Akseyna case and deliver justice for the victim’s family.
