UI Student Body Denies Member Joining VP Gibran's Working Visit Was an Organisational Delegate: 'A Personal Matter'
The Alliance of the Student Family Union of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia (IKM FIB UI) has stated that the student, Daffa Ulhaq, who participated in Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s working visit to several regions in Eastern Indonesia, was not an envoy of the organisation.
This was conveyed through an official statement on the @bemfibui Instagram account. As previously reported, Gibran invited five students from various universities to accompany his working agenda from 18 to 21 June 2026. The students represented the University of Indonesia, Pelita Harapan University, Jenderal Soedirman University, Sanata Dharma University, and the Indonesian Institute of Arts and Culture (ISBI).
During the trip, the group visited several regions, including East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Gorontalo, West Papua, Central Papua, and South Papua. One of the agendas reviewed directly was the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme in schools.
IKM FIB UI confirmed that Daffa Ulhaq is an active student in the History Study Programme at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia. However, the organisation emphasised that his participation was not related to any institutional mandate from the FIB UI student body.
“However, his presence, participation, and the use of university attributes, such as the University of Indonesia alma mater jacket, during this state agenda were carried out in a personal capacity and in no way represent the stance of IKS FIB UI, BEM FIB UI, or any of the Department/Study Programme Student Unions within the Faculty of Humanities,” wrote IKM FIB UI, as quoted on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
According to the union, all activities undertaken by Daffa Ulhaq during the agenda were his personal responsibility or related to parties outside the faculty’s student organisations.
IKM FIB UI also asserted that the activity took place without the coordination, approval, or authority of the student institutions within the Faculty of Humanities, UI.
On the other hand, the student organisation revealed that an investigation is currently underway regarding various aspects of Daffa’s departure, including the affiliation of the activity, the background of his participation, and the use of university attributes during the agenda.
“We respect and fully entrust this process to the university authorities through the applicable mechanisms so that it can proceed objectively and based on verified facts,” wrote IKM FIB UI.
