UI Student Body Denies Member Joining VP Gibran's Working Visit Was an Organisational Delegate: 'A Personal Matter'

The Alliance of the Family of Students of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia (IKM FIB UI) has stated that the student named Daffa Ulhaq, who joined Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s working visit to several regions in eastern Indonesia, was not their delegate. The statement was conveyed via an official release on the BEM FIB UI Instagram account. Previously, Gibran had invited five students from various universities to accompany his work agenda from 18 to 21 June 2026. They came from the University of Indonesia, Pelita Harapan University, Jenderal Soedirman University, Sanata Dharma University, and the Indonesian Institute of Arts and Culture (ISBI). During the trip, the entourage visited several areas, including East Nusa Tenggara, Gorontalo, West Papua, Central Papua, and South Papua. One of the agendas reviewed directly was the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme in schools. IKM FIB UI confirmed that Daffa Ulhaq is an active student of the History Study Programme at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia. However, the organisation stressed that his participation was not related to any institutional mandate from FIB UI’s student bodies. ‘However, the presence, participation, or use of campus attributes in the form of a University of Indonesia alma mater jacket by the individual concerned during the state agenda was carried out in a personal capacity and does not in any way represent the stance of IKM FIB UI, BEM FIB UI, or all Department/Study Programme Student Associations within FIB UI,’ the statement read. The organisation asserted that all activities undertaken by Daffa Ulhaq during the agenda were his personal responsibility or related to parties outside the faculty’s student organisations. IKM FIB UI also emphasised that the activity was outside the coordination, approval, or authority of student institutions within the Faculty of Humanities, UI. Furthermore, the student organisation disclosed that an internal inquiry is currently underway to trace various aspects of Daffa’s departure, including his activity affiliations, the background of his participation, and the use of campus attributes during the agenda. ‘We respect and fully entrust this process to the university authorities through the applicable mechanisms, so that it may proceed objectively and based on verified facts,’ IKM FIB UI wrote.
