UI Student Body Condemns Alleged Sexual Harassment Case Involving Law Faculty Students
The Chairman of the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI), Yatalathof Ma’shun Imawan, has condemned the alleged sexual harassment case in the Law Faculty (FH) student group chat. Athof, as he is known, revealed that on Sunday, 12 April 2026, the Department of Advocacy and Student Welfare (Adkesma) of BEM UI 2026 had discussed the handling of the case with the University of Indonesia’s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS UI). “We are assisting in overseeing the matter at the university level, and we are also coordinating with the FH UI academic community through Adkesma BEM UI,” Athof said on Monday evening, 13 April 2026. Athof stated that he had communicated directly with UI Rector Heri Hermansyah. According to him, the rector expressed full attention to overseeing this case. “Therefore, we condemn and are monitoring the enforcement of this case. We also appreciate and continue to support the actions taken by the FH UI academic community in addressing this case. We from BEM UI provide full support to the FH UI community,” Athof said. BEM UI is urging the rectorate to impose sanctions on the students involved in the alleged sexual harassment case. “Currently, we are monitoring the progress made by the campus, particularly FH UI, in addressing this case,” Athof stated. Nevertheless, Athof hopes that the handling of the case can proceed optimally while upholding principles of confidentiality and protection for all parties involved. “Of course, we invite the UI academic community and the public to prioritise the victim’s perspective,” Athof said. The Chairman of the FH UI Student Body, Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, previously confirmed the alleged sexual harassment case involving 16 students as perpetrators. “Sexual violence has occurred involving FH UI students as the perpetrators,” Dimas said when contacted on Monday, 13 April 2026. He explained that the initial information about the case emerged after the alleged perpetrators sent an apology request through their class group. From there, it was revealed that there were conversations with sexual undertones discussing other female students in their internal group. Those conversations then circulated on social media. The form of harassment allegedly committed by the 16 students was verbal and digital. Dimas said there is no indication yet of the distribution of victim photos. However, Dimas stated that further findings are possible as the examination process continues. Dimas emphasised the student body’s firm stance on this case. “I am very disappointed with the sexual violence that occurred and will not tolerate actions that do not side with the victim,” he said.
