Smart Village is not merely the digitalisation of villages, but about communities that are digitally literate, proactive, and adaptable. Depok (ANTARA) – The Directorate of Community Service and Social Innovation (DPIS) of UI has forged strategic collaborations with the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri RI), the Government of Lampung Utara Regency, and partner villages to strengthen the implementation of the Smart Village programme. Head of the Sub-Directorate for Community Empowerment and Social Innovation, DPIS UI, Ns. La Ode Abd Rahman, in Depok, on Thursday emphasised that Smart Village is not merely administrative digitisation, but the transformation of the village ecosystem that is participatory and sustainable. “Smart Village is not merely the digitalisation of villages, but about communities that are digitally literate, proactive, and adaptable,” he said. UI also brings the idea that the success of Smart Village should be seen from impact and not merely output. The new paradigm for village development demands a participatory approach, in which the village is the main actor, not merely a programme recipient. This is in line with the Socio-technical System theory framework that emphasises the close interconnection between technology and human social elements so that they can function effectively. Second, Smart Economy, which promotes the digitalisation of MSMEs, the development of village marketplaces, and technology-based tourism. Third, Smart Society, which focuses on digital literacy, community empowerment, and social inclusion. Fourth, Smart Environment, which emphasises renewable energy, environmental management, and smart farming practices. For UI, technology is merely an enabler, while the key to success remains with the community and adaptive village governance.
