UI strengthens education and research ties with Harbin Institute of Technology

Universitas Indonesia (UI) is continuing to broaden its educational diplomacy and international partnerships with the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), a leading Chinese university in science and technology. Rector Prof Heri Hermansyah welcomed the delegation from HIT, which is renowned as one of China’s most prestigious universities with a strong reputation in engineering, technology, and science. “As Indonesia’s most comprehensive university, we view international partnerships as crucial for addressing global challenges, developing human resource quality, and producing solutions with real impact for society,” the Rector stated. HIT, with its proven capabilities in environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, Artificial Intelligence, and various other advanced technologies, will be a strategic partner that accelerates UI’s scientific capabilities and reputation. He emphasised that with the increasingly close economic partnership between Indonesia and China, collaboration in higher education, such as that being explored between UI and HIT, is also crucial. “The fields of collaboration that can be explored between UI and HIT are quite broad, such as in engineering and science, particularly computer science, AI, and robotics. We can also strengthen the partnership through joint research programmes and innovation initiatives, student and researcher exchanges, and other academic mobility. We hope this meeting will be the start of concrete, significant, sustainable cooperation with real impact for both institutions and the wider community,” said Heri. Chair of the HIT Council, Prof Chen Jie, said the forum was a good opportunity for UI and HIT to establish collaboration in various fields and cooperation schemes, and expressed hope of welcoming a UI delegation to the HIT campus in Harbin. The digital science centre under discussion is also expected to serve as a bridge connecting the academic institutions with industry partners. HIT, which is a member of the BRICS Network University, also invited UI to collaborate under the framework of that multi-campus platform, especially following Indonesia’s accession as a full member of BRICS. UI and HIT will continue intensive communication to discuss in greater detail the collaboration plans that can be realised, particularly regarding the establishment of a jointly managed digital science centre and various other academic mobility programmes.
