Depok (ANTARA) – Universitas Indonesia (UI) is strengthening collaboration on the management of university residences to promote better, more sustainable governance standards focused on shaping residents’ character.

UI Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Facilities Agus Setiawan said in a statement in Depok on Sunday that residences hold a strategic place in the higher education ecosystem, as they provide a learning environment beyond the classroom at all times.

Strengthening residence governance is therefore an important investment in supporting the development of an outstanding and principled younger generation.

Meanwhile, UI Residence Head Mariyah, who has recently been appointed chair of the Indonesian Association of University Residence Managers (Perpati) for the 2026–2029 term, said the association was formed in response to the need for a forum bringing together university residence managers across Indonesia.

One of the new leadership’s priority programmes is to draw up national guidelines for managing university residences.

“We hope residence managers will have a standard reference for managing university residences through the Indonesian university residence governance standards that we are drafting together,” she said.

Residences should therefore no longer be seen merely as accommodation, but also as places for character-building and student development.
