UI Sanctions 15 Participants in Lewd Law Faculty Chat Group, Some Suspended for 3 Semesters
Universitas Indonesia (UI) has established sanctions against 15 of the 16 reported individuals in a case involving alleged sexual violence within a lewd chat group at the Faculty of Law (FH). Among the perpetrators, some have received suspension sanctions of three semesters.
“UI handles every report of violence seriously, fairly, and in support of the victims. The sanctions imposed are based on the results of a thorough investigation and the recommendations of the PPK Task Force and the Expert Team, with sanction levels proportional to the proven violations,” stated UI Director of Public, Media, Government, and International Relations, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, as reported by Antara on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Based on the examination results, of the 15 reported individuals proven to have committed violations, three people were subject to the postponement of academic activities (suspension) for three semesters, seven people were suspended for two semesters, and four people were suspended for one semester.
One reported individual was given a light administrative sanction in accordance with applicable regulations. Meanwhile, another reported individual was found not to have committed any violation based on an evaluation of all available evidence.
In addition to the suspension sanctions, the reported individuals are required to undergo psychological counselling and attend courses focused on preventing sexual violence as a measure to prevent recurrence.
UI emphasised that the enforcement of rules regarding violence is carried out consistently against every proven violation, regardless of the status, position, faculty, or background of the parties involved. UI stated that all reports are processed according to applicable regulations and objective findings, ensuring every decision is accountable.
Since the report was received, the UI PPK Task Force has conducted a series of handling stages, including the receipt and verification of reports, examination of victims, witnesses, and the accused, collection and deepening of evidence, additional assessments, and the discussion of examination results in internal meetings to formulate recommendations. This entire process served as the basis for the university leadership in making the final decision.
UI stated its commitment to continuing to accompany and protect victims throughout and after the handling process, including ensuring the availability of recovery services and guaranteeing the academic rights of the victims. Simultaneously, UI is strengthening prevention measures across the entire campus environment to ensure similar incidents are prevented and that all members of the UI community can learn and work in a safe environment.
“The handling of this case is not the end, but part of UI’s ongoing efforts to build a safe campus environment free from violence. Our focus is on victim recovery and prevention, so that every member of the UI community is protected,” said Erwin.
He noted that the handling of this case was carried out in accordance with applicable regulations, referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 55 of 2024, as well as the UI Rector’s Regulation Number 37 of 2025 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence within the Universitas Indonesia Environment.
The determination is the result of a careful examination process upholding the principles of due process, accountability, and victim protection, as set out in the UI Rector’s Decisions Number 504/SK/R/UI/2026 to 519/SK/R/UI/2026.
This decision is a follow-up to the investigation results and recommendations from the UI Prevention and Handling of Violence Task Force (Satgas PPK) and the Expert Team, formed through Rector’s Decision Number 360/SK/R/UI/2026.
Sanctions were imposed progressively, considering the nature of the violation, the severity, and the degree of involvement of each proven reported individual through the examination. The sanction framework was established in accordance with Ministerial and Rector Regulations, covering administrative sanctions, postponement of academic activities (suspension), up to dismissal as a student, applied according to the severity of the violation.
UI stated that this tiered approach ensures every decision is proportional to the proven actions and can be objectively accounted for.
