UI ready to drive Asia-Pacific research collaboration
Depok - Universitas Indonesia (UI) has stated its readiness to become the driving force for research collaboration in the Asia-Pacific after receiving a courtesy visit from the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
UI’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Mahmud Sudibandriyo, in Depok on Friday, said that the APRU visit to UI not only strengthens international academic networks but also opens opportunities for research universities in the Asia-Pacific to design more relevant collaborative models to meet global societal needs.
“We see the importance of connecting cross-ecosystem research with experiential-based education so that students and lecturers can directly contribute to real solutions,” he said.
UI also highlighted the need for clarity in procedures and access to information so that member universities can be more active in proposing collaborative programmes relevant to academic and research needs in the Asia-Pacific region.
Through this meeting, UI seeks to utilise the APRU communication platform to expand the visibility of its international academic programmes, including student exchange programmes, international conferences, and collaborative research activities, to reach a wider range of participants from various APRU member countries.
Both parties agreed to strengthen ongoing communication in designing future collaborative programmes that not only focus on academic mobility but also on strengthening research, educational innovation, and real contributions to global society.
This visit affirms UI’s position as a world-class research university that is active in international academic networks and committed to expanding its contributions to the development of knowledge, education, and solutions to global challenges through strategic collaborations with various higher education institutions worldwide.
The APRU delegation was led by Chief Executive Thomas Schneider. This visit is part of strengthening international academic networks in the Asia-Pacific region, while also marking UI’s step in taking a greater role as the driving force for cross-country research collaboration.
APRU, headquartered in Hong Kong, is an international consortium comprising leading research universities from the Asia-Pacific, Americas, and Oceania regions.
The organisation focuses on cross-country collaboration in research, higher education, innovation, and responses to global challenges, such as climate change, global health, food security, digital transformation, and sustainable development.
