UI Pushes Indonesia to Become AI Hub in Indo-Pacific Region
Universitas Indonesia (UI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Artificial Intelligence Capital and PT Edge Mode Indonesia on Tuesday (17/3) to explore strategic collaboration in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The signing was conducted by UI Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, along with President Director of PT Artificial Intelligence Capital, Bo Niclas Adler, and Director of PT Edge Mode Indonesia, Edison Effendy.
UI Rector emphasised that this collaboration represents an important step for UI to strengthen its role as a leading and impactful campus. “Exploring collaboration with the projection of UI as a leading centre for AI technology development is UI’s effort to continue accelerating its role as an excellent and impactful campus,” said Prof. Heri.
President Director of PT Artificial Intelligence Capital, Bo Niclas Adler, expressed his hope that this collaboration would produce technological innovations beneficial to the campus and the Indonesian nation.
“We hope that this collaboration with UI can give birth to highly efficient computer technology and support various research and teaching activities on campus. Moreover, this collaboration is expected to develop brilliant talents from UI students interested in researching artificial intelligence, so that ultimately Indonesia can emerge as a global power in the field of AI,” said the Swedish businessman and AI researcher.
PT Edge Mode Indonesia emphasised the importance of building an AI research and industry ecosystem in the country.
Edison Effendy affirmed that this collaboration aligns with the “Golden Indonesia 2045” vision, with UI as a strategic partner to form an AI Research and Innovation Centre projected to be a hub for developing high-quality human resources in Indonesia through technological advancement.
Edge Mode optimistically targets Indonesia to become an AI hub in the Indo-Pacific region.
Furthermore, through this collaboration, UI is expected to become a centre for studying AI ethics and governance, as well as a hub for young Indonesian talents to develop research and innovation in the field of AI.
Sony Danang Caksono, Director of Edge Mode Indonesia, added, “We chose UI because it has high potential. As one of the state universities with the largest number of faculties, its knowledge base is also extensive. There are so many human resource talents that can become pioneers in developing AI technology for the progress of the Indonesian nation.”
With the signing of this memorandum of understanding, UI has affirmed its commitment to becoming a leading AI research centre in Indonesia and even in the region, while contributing to the development of a technology ecosystem that has a real impact on the wider community.
Through this collaboration, training programmes, joint research, and curriculum development for chip design at the university can be strengthened.
