Universitas Indonesia (UI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Artificial Intelligence Capital and PT Edge Mode Indonesia to explore strategic collaboration in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The signing was conducted directly by UI Rector Heri Hermansyah, along with Bo Niclas Adler (President Director of PT Artificial Intelligence Capital) and Edison Effendy (Director of PT Edge Mode Indonesia). UI Rector Heri Hermansyah in Depok on Thursday emphasised that this collaboration represents an important step for UI to strengthen its role as a leading and impactful campus. “Exploring collaboration with the projection of UI as a leading centre for AI technology development is UI’s effort to continue accelerating its role as an excellent and impactful campus,” said Prof. Heri. This is in order for the collaboration to produce technological innovations that benefit the campus and the Indonesian nation. “We hope that this collaboration with UI can give birth to highly efficient computer technology and support various research and teaching activities on campus,” he said. Moreover, this collaboration is expected to develop brilliant talents from UI students interested in researching artificial intelligence, so that ultimately Indonesia can emerge as a global power in the field of AI,” said the Swedish businessman and AI researcher. PT Edge Mode Indonesia emphasised the importance of building an AI research and industry ecosystem in the country. Edison Effendy affirmed that this collaboration aligns with the “Golden Indonesia 2045” vision, with UI as a strategic partner to form an AI Research and Innovation Centre projected to be a container for developing quality human resources in the country with technological advancements. Edge Mode optimistically targets Indonesia to become an AI Hub in the Indo-Pacific region. Furthermore, through this collaboration, UI is expected to become a centre for studying AI ethics and governance, as well as a container for young Indonesian talents to develop research and innovation in the field of AI. Sony Danang Caksono, Director of Edge Mode Indonesia, added that UI was chosen because it has high potential. As one of the state universities with the largest number of faculties, its knowledge base is also extensive. There are so many human resource talents who can become pioneers in developing AI technology for the advancement of the Indonesian nation.
