UI Law Faculty Student Obscene Chat Group Case: Police Admit No Report Yet
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation for Women and Children’s Protection and Anti-Trafficking in Persons (Ditres PPA PPO) of Metro Jaya Police is coordinating with Universitas Indonesia (UI) regarding the case of 16 law faculty (FH) students allegedly involved in sexual harassment in a chat group.
The Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, stated that this coordination is taking place even though, as of today, they have not received an official police report related to the case.
“So far, up to today, Metro Jaya Police has not officially received a police report. However, the steps taken by Metro Jaya Police, particularly the Directorate of PPA and PPO, have already coordinated with the relevant university,” Budi said at Metro Jaya Police on Thursday (16/4).
Budi explained that Ditres PPA-PPO of Metro Jaya Police has also gathered evidence and prepared an information report regarding the coordination.
Budi mentioned that the police respect UI’s steps, which are currently conducting an internal investigation into the alleged sexual harassment. He said that they are ready to conduct an investigation if legal action is to be taken.
“Metro Jaya Police is ready to coordinate and provide legal assistance if involved by the university. But if a police report is to be received later, Metro Jaya Police is also ready to process it,” he said.
Furthermore, Budi stated that Ditres PPA-PPO of Metro Jaya Police is also coordinating with the victim’s legal counsel to provide assistance.
“Currently, we have also coordinated with the victim’s legal advisor to provide consultation assistance regarding this incident,” he said.
Previously, this alleged harassment case stemmed from the circulation of a screenshot of a chat group containing obscene conversations allegedly by FH UI students. In the group, they mentioned other female students.
From the Instagram account of the UI Faculty of Law (@fakultashukumui), it was stated that the faculty has received reports regarding the chat group. The faculty strongly condemns the action.
Most recently, the campus has deactivated the academic status of 16 FH students allegedly involved in the sexual harassment case in the chat group.
This step follows the Internal Memo on Follow-up Plan for Examination (RTLP) from the UI Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK) dated 15 April 2026. In the memo, the task force officially recommends the temporary suspension of student status for the 16 reported students.
“In response to that recommendation, UI has set a temporary academic deactivation for the 16 suspected students for the period from 15 April to 30 May 2026. This policy is a preventive administrative step taken to maintain the integrity of the examination process and to protect all parties involved,” said UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Relations, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, in his statement on Thursday (16/4).
