UI Law Faculty Case: What Should the Campus Do When Sexual Violence Occurs?
A sexual violence case involving 16 students from the Faculty of Law (FH) at the University of Indonesia (UI) has come under intense scrutiny. Many parties regret that an educational institution, particularly a faculty focused on law and justice, has become a site where the law is violated. So, what should the campus or educational institution do to prevent similar incidents from recurring? Director of the Indonesian Legal Resource Center, Siti Aminah Tardi, stated that no less important for educational institutions, especially FH UI, is to intensify prevention of sexual violence. “Including sexual violence and gender-based discrimination,” said the woman familiarly known as Ami to Kompas.com on Tuesday (14/4/2026). In addition, Ami mentioned that complaint channels for victims must be opened if the case has already unfolded. “Therefore, I support the swift response from FH UI in immediately examining this case, opening complaint channels, and willingness to provide support to victims who need it,” she said. However, if it has already occurred, firm action becomes a crucial part in breaking the chain of sexual violence in the world of education. “Taking firm action against perpetrators without compromise, whether from educators and educational staff, fellow students, or outsiders,” she said.
