UI Imposes Suspension Sanctions on 15 Students Over Lewd Chat Case

Universitas Indonesia (UI) has imposed sanctions on 15 out of 16 students involved in a case of alleged lewd chats, classified as Electronic-Based Sexual Violence (KSBE), within the UI Faculty of Law.

UI Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, stated that every decision was based on available evidence and applicable regulations. Based on the results of the investigation, of the 15 reported individuals proven to have committed violations, three individuals have been suspended from academic activities for three semesters, seven for two semesters, and four for one semester.

Meanwhile, one reported individual received a light administrative sanction in accordance with existing provisions, while another was found not guilty of any violation following an evaluation of all available evidence. In addition to the suspensions, the sanctioned students are required to undergo psychological counselling and attend courses focused on preventing sexual violence to prevent recurrence.

UI emphasised that the enforcement of rules regarding violence is carried out consistently against every proven violation, regardless of status, position, faculty, or the background of the parties involved. All reports are processed based on applicable regulations and objective investigations to ensure accountability.

Since the report was received, the UI Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK) has conducted several stages of handling, including report verification, examination of victims, witnesses, and the accused, collection of evidence, and internal deliberations to formulate recommendations. This process served as the basis for the university leadership’s final decision.

UI is committed to continuing to support and protect victims throughout and after the handling process, including ensuring the availability of recovery services and guaranteeing the victims’ academic rights. Simultaneously, UI is strengthening prevention measures across the campus environment to ensure all members of the university can study and work in a safe environment.

Erwin noted that the handling of this case adheres to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 55 of 2024, as well as UI Rector Regulation Number 37 of 2025 regarding the Prevention and Handling of Violence within the Universitas Indonesia environment. The sanctions were imposed progressively, considering the nature of the violation, the severity, and the degree of involvement of each proven party.
