UI has new professor

JAKARTA (JP): Soehartati Gondhowiardjo Argadikoesoemo was installed Saturday as a new professor of medical science at the University of Indonesia (UI).

Soehartati was installed at a ceremony led by Ali Sulaiman, dean of UI Medical School, on behalf of the university's rector at its campus in Salemba, Central Jakarta.

Soehartati became the 398th professor installed at the university since 1950.

"As a research university, UI will strive to encourage its lecturers to improve in quality, thereby enabling them to become new professors," Ali was quoted by Antara as saying.

Out of the 398 professors, Ali said, 124 came from the university's School of Letters, followed by 98 from the School of Medicine and 40 from the Law School. (hhr)
