The Rector of the University of Indonesia (UI), Prof. Heri Hermansyah, has assured data security in carrying out digital transformation so that the systems at UI are fast, accurate and able to serve without space and time constraints. “Digital transformation is undertaken to achieve a single, consistent standard, a single data set that is the same and valid, with data security guaranteed and an effective and efficient system,” he said in remarks at the launch of UI Digital Leap 2026 at the UI Rectorate Building on Wednesday.

The Rector explained that within the Directorate of Digital Transformation there are divisions whose task is to guard the security of the information system; they conduct surveillance to protect the data contained within these systems. The Rector emphasised UI’s strategic commitment to leap to a new phase of institutional governance through UI Digital Leap 2026.

“Digital transformation is no longer a choice, but a strategic necessity to ensure UI remains relevant, competitive, and world-class.” He added that a world-class university is underpinned by integrated governance, data-based decision making, reliable systems, and strong information security.

“We have strengthened the integration of academic, financial, research, and human resources services,” he said.

At UI, he noted, systems that previously operated independently are now directed within a single integrated architecture. Leaders have access to more accurate and up-to-date information to support strategic decisions.

“Infrastructure and service security are also reinforced to guarantee the university’s operational continuity,” he added.

The Rector further noted that for this transformation to run effectively, four pillars must be implemented. First, digital transformation must be understood as governance transformation. Each unit must align its work processes with the established system. There must be no more initiatives running without integration and clear standards.

Second, data is the university’s strategic asset. Each unit head is responsible for the quality and consistency of data within their environment. Going forward, university policies must be based on verified data, not merely assumptions or long-standing habits.

Third, discipline in information security and service continuity is a joint obligation. The reputation of the institution depends heavily on the stability and public trust in our systems.

Fourth, this transformation must deliver real efficiency. Processes should be simpler, services faster, cross-unit coordination stronger, and transparency greater.

UI Digital Leap 2026 is part of the Unggul Impactful 2024–2029 strategy. It lays the foundation to strengthen educational quality, support impactful research, boost global competitiveness, and build governance that is modern and accountable.

The success of this transformation will not be determined by technology alone, but by leadership, commitment, and a culture of collaborative work.

“Make this momentum the beginning of consolidation towards a more integrated, more adaptive, and more prepared University of Indonesia for the future,” he said.
