UI FH Student Council Chair Resigns Over Sexual Harassment Chat Group Case

Depok, VIVA – The case of alleged sexual harassment occurring within a student conversation group at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (FH UI) continues to trigger widespread repercussions in the campus environment.

One of the consequences that has emerged is the resignation of the Chair of the Student Representative Council (BPM) FH UI, Javier Hattaguna Hartawan, from his position.

This decision was announced through a post on the official Instagram account of BPM FH UI. In his written statement, Javier emphasised that the step taken to step down is a form of moral responsibility for the developing situation in the faculty environment.

“I, Javier Hattaguna Hartawan, as Chair of the Student Representative Council of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (BPM FH UI) for 2026, hereby declare my resignation from my position as chair of BPM FH UI for 2026,” said Javier, quoting the post on Instagram @bpmfhui, Wednesday, 15 April 2026.

In addition to being a form of personal responsibility, Javier stated that his resignation also aims to maintain organisational stability so that it can continue to operate well amid the sensitive situation.

He hopes that BPM FH UI can still carry out its functions in accordance with the basic values of the organisation.

“So that BPM FH UI can operate optimally in accordance with the values, ethics, integrity, and the basic guidelines of the Family Association of FH UI Students,” said Javier.

On the same occasion, he also expressed an apology to the entire academic community for the commotion that has occurred and appreciated the trust given during his tenure.

“I convey my apologies to all parties, especially the large family of the Indonesian Faculty of Law, if during carrying out this mandate there are things that are less pleasing,” he said.

Procedurally, the position of BPM FH UI chair will next be filled by the deputy chair. Javier also emphasised that the administrative processes related to his resignation will be completed within a maximum period of two weeks.

“In connection with the applicable mechanisms and administrative procedures, all administrative processes related to this resignation will be completed by me within a maximum of 14 (fourteen) days from the submission of this statement,” wrote Javier.
