Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) and the Russian-based cybersecurity company, Positive Technologies, are exploring cooperation in training areas including data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity.

This exploration of cooperation is being facilitated by the Sakurannya Society, an institution that bridges diplomacy, education, research, and cultural exchange between Indonesia, Japan, and other international partners.

“Cybersecurity and artificial intelligence are now inseparable. AI models require secure data, while modern security systems increasingly rely on AI to recognise threats. The Data Science Centre (DSC) of FMIPA UI wishes to contribute at this intersection,” said the Head of the DSC FMIPA UI, Alhadi Bustamam, in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

He explained that the link between AI and cybersecurity opens opportunities for collaboration between universities and industry to address digital security challenges.

“We hope this exploration leads to joint research that produces high-quality publications as well as solutions for digital security issues in Indonesia,” he said.

Tovic R, the founder of the Sakuranesia Society, stated that the meeting is part of an effort to connect Indonesian universities with international partners to support the development of digital talent.

“International collaboration must address Indonesia’s real needs. Currently, one of our greatest needs is reliable digital talent in the fields of cybersecurity and AI,” he noted.

Tovic believes that universities play a vital role in preparing human resources capable of following technological developments while understanding implementation challenges.

“We are committed to overseeing the follow-up of this meeting, ensuring that the plans discussed today are quickly realised through concrete programmes for students and lecturers,” he added.

Through this initiative, Sakuranesia hopes to support the development of Indonesian talent while expanding networks of friendship and cooperation with Japan, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan, as well as developing educational and research relations between Indonesia and Russia.

Alexander Udalov, Director of International Channels and Educational Programmes at Positive Technologies, expressed his company’s readiness to share practical experience and expertise in cybersecurity.

“The demand for cybersecurity experts is growing faster than their availability, including in Indonesia. We want to share practical expertise so that students understand how attacks work as well as how to counter them,” he said.
