UI Enters Top 200 of QS WUR 2027, Rector Says It Is Not the Final Goal
University of Indonesia (UI) Rector Heri Hermansyah stated that the campus’s achievement of once again entering the world’s top 200 in the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) 2027 is not a reason for complacency. According to him, this accomplishment must instead be a catalyst for UI to enhance its competitiveness at the international level.
“UI must work harder, faster, and smarter to continue increasing our contribution and competitiveness internationally,” Heri said in a written statement on Saturday, 20 June 2026.
UI has once again become the top higher education institution in Indonesia in the QS WUR 2027 rankings, placing 191st in the world. The campus is also the only university in Indonesia that has consistently remained in the world’s top 200 group.
Heri said that maintaining this position is something to be grateful for, as it was achieved amidst increasingly fierce global competition. However, he noted that this achievement is not the final goal the university aims to reach. “Maintaining a position in the world’s top 200 amidst increasingly fierce global competition is an achievement we should be grateful for. However, this is not the final goal,” he said.
He stated that this achievement is the result of the collective work of the academic community, alumni, and UI’s partners. With this foundation, UI will continue its transformation into a world-class research university that contributes to the development of science and innovation.
In the QS WUR 2027 rankings, UI recorded several excellent indicators. These include Employer Reputation with a score of 87.4, Employment Outcomes at 81.0, and International Faculty Ratio at 88.4.
These achievements demonstrate the high level of trust the professional world has in UI graduates, the alumni’s success in their careers, and the strength of the university’s international academic network.
In addition to being ranked 191st in the world, UI also placed in the top eight higher education institutions in Southeast Asia and entered the top 50 in Asia.
With these achievements, UI expressed optimism that it can strengthen its position as a world-class research university while increasing its contribution to national development.
In the latest list, UI is the only Indonesian higher education institution to break into the world’s top 200. This achievement means UI is the highest-ranked university in Indonesia according to QS. Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), which is ranked 206th in the world, is the closest to UI.
Regionally, UI is ranked 47th in Asia. Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia, UI is the 8th ranked university.
According to the official QS website, there are five main indicators used to assess the quality of higher education. The five are Research and Discovery with a 50 percent weighting, Employability and Outcomes with 20 percent, Learning Experience with 10 percent, Global Engagement with 15 percent, and Sustainability with 5 percent.
For the QS World University Rankings 2027, Quacquarelli Symonds ranked 1,504 higher education institutions from various countries. There are 20 universities in Indonesia included in the list.
