“The investigation is currently underway comprehensively, involving the UI Violence Prevention and Handling (PPK) Task Force, the faculty, and relevant units at the university level,” Director of Public, Media, Government, and International Relations at UI, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, said on Tuesday (April 14).

He confirmed that 16 students have been identified as suspected parties involved in the incident. All are undergoing investigations in accordance with applicable mechanisms while upholding the principles of the presumption of innocence, justice, and the protection of the rights of all parties.

UI emphasized that the process has followed formal procedures since the victim submitted a direct report to the Task Force, along with supporting evidence.

Additional reports facilitated through student representatives are also part of the investigation.

Panigoro said all reports are thoroughly verified to ensure factual accuracy and fairness in decision-making.

“Based on preliminary investigation results, this case began with interactions in digital chats that then spread widely and triggered a public response. The university is also concerned about the developments in the campus environment, including the social dynamics that emerged in response to the case. UI ensures that this situation has been managed to prevent physical conflict,” he conveyed.

In carrying out the investigation process, the UI PPK Task Force operates based on the institutional mandate stipulated in the Rector’s Decree and the University of Indonesia Rector’s Regulation Number 37 of 2025 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence within the University of Indonesia Environment.

This regulation has been formulated in accordance with Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 55 of 2024, ensuring that all procedures are aligned with national standards.

The ongoing handling phase includes examining the parties, reviewing the chronology, verifying evidence, and developing recommendations by the PPK Task Force.

These recommendations will serve as the basis for university leadership in making decisions, including the possible imposition of academic sanctions based on the level of proven violations.

The university ensured that its approach in handling this case is victim-centered, ensuring the availability of psychological counseling, legal assistance, and ongoing academic support.

As part of its institutional commitment, UI continues to strengthen its sexual violence prevention and response system through policy evaluation, capacity building of the PPK Task Force, and ongoing education for the academic community.
