UI Board of Professors Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Integrity and Ethics
Depok (ANTARA) - The Board of Professors of the University of Indonesia (DGB UI) has reaffirmed the strengthening of integrity and ethics during the commemoration of Pancasila Day on 1 June.
Speaking at the UI Depok campus on Tuesday, the Chairman of DGB UI, Professor Eko Prasojo, asserted that Pancasila plays a crucial role in the cultural aspects of national progress, alongside natural resources, human resources, and systems of governance. He noted that the condition of a nation is heavily determined by the attitudes and character displayed by its people, and that UI holds a crucial responsibility in building Indonesian society.
“Cultural aspects are an important catalyst for a nation’s progress, as demonstrated by many developed countries. From culture, the character, integrity, and ethics of a nation are born,” said Eko. “From this UI campus, we are determined to fortify integrity while preparing ourselves to face all the challenges of the era. Globalization, digitalisation, and generational shifts must be met with the strengthening of a culture of integrity.”
Furthermore, the Professor, who specialises in public policy, expressed hope that the members of the DGB UI would continue to deliver a tangible impact by maintaining, strengthening, and shaping the integrity and ethics of both the UI institution and the nation.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Committee for Academic Life Development and Moral Integrity of the DGB UI, Professor Riri Fitric Sari, emphasised that the primary goal of this forum is to restore public trust and uphold the academic dignity of UI amidst various integrity challenges. She highlighted phenomena such as sexual violence, academic fraud, plagiarism, and document forgery as symptoms of a weakening academic culture. “If everything else is lost, all that remains of a UI graduate is character. Robust integrity is the primary requirement for us to be worthy of trust,” said Riri.
