The memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed in Depok, West Java, renews collaboration across the three pillars of higher education—education, research, and community service—aimed at delivering tangible societal impact.

The Rector of the University of Indonesia, Prof. Heri Hermansyah, said the agreement is designed to enhance institutional synergy and deliver outcomes that benefit broader communities.

The partnership covers joint research projects, curriculum development, academic conferences, workshops, symposiums, and faculty exchanges between the two universities.

It also includes international mobility programs such as student exchanges, expanding opportunities for cross-border academic exposure and collaboration.

“Cooperation with the University of Sydney marks an important milestone in strengthening UI’s position as a world-class research university,” Heri said.

He added that the collaboration is expected to expand academic networks while contributing solutions to global challenges through joint research initiatives.

The agreement also serves as a bridge to strengthen Indonesia-Australia relations, reinforcing UI’s commitment to contributing at both national and global levels.

During the meeting, UI proposed a double degree program that would allow students to study at both institutions and earn two official degrees upon completion.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney, Prof. Mark Scott AO, said the visit reflects a long-standing partnership between the two universities.

“We are enthusiastic about building a deeper and more strategic global partnership with UI,” he said, noting the shared legacy of both institutions as the oldest universities in their respective countries.
