The University of Indonesia (UI) and Khalifa University from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are exploring collaboration in research and academia to strengthen the international reputation of both higher education institutions. “We hope this visit marks the beginning of a meaningful and sustainable partnership between UI and Khalifa University,” said UI Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, Student Affairs, and Alumni, Hamdi Muluk, in Depok on Tuesday. He views Khalifa’s position at 147th in the world as a strategic opportunity to forge cross-disciplinary research collaboration, ranging from engineering to science. “We welcome the exploration of concrete programmes, including academic mobility, so that this cooperation can be implemented immediately,” he said. “Khalifa University continues to grow rapidly and this year successfully climbed to 147th position in the QS rankings. As a world-class research campus with a vision to become a global institution that stimulates positive change and shapes the future, we are very keen to partner with UI and produce a variety of concrete collaborations that can strengthen the international reputation of both institutions,” he added. Both parties highlighted various collaborative opportunities that can be explored, ranging from joint research in energy, climate resilience, environmental science, coastal science, geoscience, data science, and artificial intelligence (AI). Further in the research domain, the UI and Khalifa University delegations also opened up opportunities for cooperation in academic mobility, such as student exchanges, academic staff exchanges, and cultural understanding programmes. In this exploratory cooperation, UI is also eyeing the opportunity to become a connecting bridge for companies or start-ups from the UAE wishing to enter the Indonesian market.
