UI and Monash University Agree to Develop Information Systems Programme
The Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Indonesia (Fasilkom UI) and Monash University have agreed to develop a joint degree programme in Information Systems as part of an effort to strengthen international collaboration in higher education.
Speaking at the UI Depok campus on Friday, the Dean of Fasilkom UI, Wisnu Jatmiko, stated that the collaboration with Monash University is a strategic step towards improving educational quality and expanding international opportunities for students. “We highly appreciate all the efforts made to reach this agreement. This joint degree programme is a significant step in strengthening Fasilkom UI’s international cooperation,” said Wisnu.
He explained that the collaboration focuses not only on academic programmes but also opens opportunities for cooperation in research and digital education. Fasilkom UI is also exploring potential collaborations for Bachelor of Computer Science and Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence programmes. “It is hoped that this cooperation can expand to various levels and other academic fields in the future,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Associate Dean of the International Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University, Prof. Juliana Sutanto, noted that this joint degree programme marks a new chapter in the relationship between Monash University and Fasilkom UI, which has previously been established through various research collaborations. “We are very pleased to expand our collaboration with Fasilkom UI. For years, we have worked together on various academic and research activities, and now that relationship is evolving through a more structured educational programme,” said Juliana.
During the discussions between the two institutions, several strategic aspects were addressed, including curriculum alignment, international student admission mechanisms, and opportunities for developing international programmes in information systems, computer science, and artificial intelligence.
The Head of the Master of Information Technology Programme at Fasilkom UI, Putu Wuri Handayani, stated that completing various administrative stages will be a crucial step in supporting the implementation and promotion of the joint degree programme to prospective students.
In addition to discussing academic programme development, both institutions exchanged views on the utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. Monash University shared its experience in adopting learning approaches that are adaptive to AI technological developments, while emphasising the importance of students mastering core competencies and skills. Through this partnership, Fasilkom UI and Monash University hope to provide increasingly competitive educational programmes on a global level, while expanding opportunities for students to gain international academic experience relevant to industry needs and future technological developments.
