Universitas Indonesia (UI) and the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) are reinforcing their synergy to support the development of more comfortable, decent, and sustainable student housing, as well as opening opportunities to optimise campus assets for the welfare of the entire academic community.

UI Rector Heri Hermansyah in Depok on Tuesday stated that UI is moving quickly to optimise all assets, including potential land in Depok and Salemba.

“The presence of the PKP Minister at UI is very strategic. Support from the Ministry of PKP will strengthen plans for new dormitory construction and academic community settlement areas, in line with UI’s vision as a leading university that not only delivers real impact for global society but also prospers the entire UI academic community,” he explained.

Meanwhile, PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait conveyed appreciation for the condition of UI’s dormitories.

“I directly inspected the UI dormitory facilities and felt satisfied with the existing quality. I hope UI continues to improve the provision of decent housing for students,” said the man familiarly known as Ara.

He stated that his side at the Ministry of PKP is ready to support so that regulations and campus facility developments can be facilitated, allowing UI to become a model campus in managing student housing assets.

Minister Ara emphasised the importance of involving students in the campus facility development process.

“In campus facility development, students must be involved because ultimately they are the ones who will enjoy the results of that development,” he stressed.

As a follow-up, Minister Ara invited UI to form a communication group together with PKP Ministry officials to discuss campus asset optimisation opportunities more intensively.

This plan includes the construction of student flats for the UI academic community, new student dormitories, and other strategic facilities that support academic activities and campus productivity.

Available facilities include rooms, furniture, WiFi, canteen, laundry, gymnasium, counselling room, and 24-hour security.

Rental costs range from Rp500,000 to Rp2,000,000 per month, depending on the room type. UI targets its Student Dormitories to become the best student housing in Southeast Asia by 2030.
