UI: 16 Students Involved in Sexual Harassment Case Have Been Examined
Universitas Indonesia (UI) states that the investigation into the sexual harassment case by several law faculty students is ongoing. This investigation involves the Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK), the faculty, and related units at the university level.
UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, said that as of today, UI has identified 16 students as suspected perpetrators involved in the harassment incident. He stated that these 16 students are currently undergoing examination, while upholding the principle of presumption of innocence.
Based on initial statements, Erwin said the sexual harassment case stemmed from interactions among the 16 students in their digital communication space. However, these interactions spread widely on social media, triggering a public response.
“The development of the situation in the campus environment is also a concern for the university, including the social dynamics that have emerged as a response to the case,” Erwin said in a press statement on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
Erwin said that in carrying out the investigation process, UI’s Satgas PPK operates based on the institutional mandate regulated through the Rector’s Decree and the Rector’s Regulation of Universitas Indonesia Number 37 of 2025 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Universitas Indonesia Environment.
The ongoing handling stages include examination of the parties, deepening of the chronology, verification of evidence, and preparation of recommendations by Satgas PPK. These recommendations will later serve as the basis for university leadership in determining decisions.
“This includes the possibility of imposing academic sanctions according to the level of proven violations,” Erwin said.
Finally, UI urges all parties not to disseminate unverified information and to avoid speculation that could disrupt the handling process. Erwin then assured that this case will be handled thoroughly with professionalism and transparency.
Previously, 16 law faculty students at Universitas Indonesia were suspected of committing sexual violence. They are alleged to have engaged in sexually toned conversations discussing other students in their internal group. Those conversations circulated on social media platform X via a post from the account @sampahfhui on Saturday, 11 April 2026.
After screenshots of the alleged perpetrators’ conversations spread on social media, UI law faculty students and the dean’s office held a forum session for the perpetrators on Monday evening. The forum was held to address the issue. The forum was attended by Dean of FHUI Parulian Paidi Aritonang and hundreds of students, and was broadcast live on social media.
UI Student Executive Board Chairman Yatalathof Ma’shum Imawan urged the campus to expel them. “FHUI students demand that the 16 perpetrators be expelled,” Yatalathof said at the forum held at the Djokosoetono Auditorium FHUI on Monday evening.
