UGM, Sleman govt agree to cooperate

YOGYAKARTA: In a bid to achieve closer cooperation in education and human resources development, the government of Sleman regency and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) signed an agreement on Wednesday that covers both fields.

The agreement was signed jointly by Sleman regency secretary Sutrisno and UGM rector Sofian Effendi, and will be effective for five years.

Reading a written address from Sleman Regent Ibnu Subiyanto, Sutrisno said there was much human resources potential in the regency that had not yet been fully developed.

In his statement, Sofian revealed that much research on various subjects had been carried out by the university. However, most of the results were not applied and were left to gather dust.

"That is why we are establishing close cooperation with both government institutions and the private sector," said Sofian, expressing the hope that through this cooperation the university could improve its contributions to the local community. -- JP
