UGM launches Techno Center

In a bid to help fulfill its pledge to make itself a research university as well as a people's university, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) launched on Monday its Techno Center, a center for information, training and innovative technology.

According to Agus Dwiyanto, UGM vice rector overseeing business cooperation and development, the center was designed as a one-stop agency for transfer of technology, industrial systems development, establishment of start-up companies in the manufacturing and service sectors and development of collaboration between the university and business community.

"This is essential, especially because we have so much technological potential," Agus Dwiyanto said.

This included, said Agus, vaccine production, developing silkworm plantations and products, biotechnology, post-biotic and pre-biotic products, natural products to fight cancer, a test system for production quality and military equipment engineering. -- JP
