“That is good news. The government deserves appreciation for providing internships for around 11,000 participants. This number could be increased further,” he said on Sunday.

Effendi said the program helps address unemployment among new graduates entering the workforce.

Although not all participants are absorbed into companies after completing the program, they gain work experience and certification that can support future job applications.

“This program helps because participants receive certificates and develop specific skills that can support their job search,” he said.

He expressed hope that the program could expand to reach up to 25,000 participants in the future.

Effendi also encouraged companies to recruit interns after the program ends, although such recruitment should remain based on each company’s needs.

Earlier, Manpower Minister Yassierli officially closed the first phase of the 2025 National Internship Program, which ran from October 20, 2025, to April 19, 2026.

The ministry is currently calculating how many participants will be recruited by companies after completing the six-month internship.

According to the ministry, the program involved 1,185 companies and 5,267 mentors, with nearly 12,000 active participants.

Participants who complete six months receive certificates, while those joining for more than three months receive certificates of participation.
