UGM deploys students to supervise animal sacrifice outside official slaughterhouses

The Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta has deployed 20 students to supervise animal sacrifice outside the city’s official slaughterhouses (RPH) during Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. ‘Twenty selected students will serve as supervisors for animal sacrifice outside Yogyakarta City’s RPH from 26 to 29 May 2026,’ said UGM Halal Slaughter Supervisor Endy Triyannanto in Yogyakarta on Tuesday. ‘This strategic move follows a collaboration with the Yogyakarta City Agriculture and Food Office to ensure the sacrificial ritual complies with Islamic standards.’ ‘This technical supervision and comprehensive training is crucial to ensure students can oversee halal slaughter procedures while applying animal welfare principles and conducting optimal post-mortem checks on-site,’ he added. Meanwhile, UGM Faculty of Animal Husbandry Dean Professor Budi Guntoro urged student delegates to maintain integrity by ensuring meat supplied to the public meets the Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal (ASUH) standards. He added that this collaborative programme between academia and local government in implementing the sacrificial ritual not only serves as a tangible academic contribution to the community but also provides students with a strategic platform to hone practical skills, social awareness, and on-the-ground leadership.
