UGM Alumni Hand Over 26 Temporary Shelters to Aceh Tamiang Disaster Victims

Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Gadjah Mada University Alumni Association (KAGAMA) has handed over 26 temporary housing units (Huntara) to communities affected by flooding in Sekumur Village, Sekerak District, Aceh Tamiang Regency.

“The participation of UGM alumni in disaster management has proven to be tangible, both at the regional and national levels,” said the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Aceh and Chairman of KAGAMA Aceh, M Nasir, in Aceh Tamiang on Sunday (5/7).

The temporary housing assistance, part of the KAGAMA disaster care programme, was presented by the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, acting as the Secretary General of PP KAGAMA, Nezar Patria, alongside the Rector of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Prof. Ova Emilia, and the Aceh Regional Secretary, M Nasir.

“KAGAMA has played a significant role in disaster mitigation. As the Regional Secretary of Aceh, I am committed to continuing our contribution to rebuilding Aceh post-disaster and accelerating the recovery process for affected communities,” he stated.

On this occasion, M Nasir also brought the Head of the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) and the Head of the Aceh Energy and Mineral Resources Office (ESDM) to ensure that the aid provided is well-targeted and integrated.

“We specifically invited the Head of the ESDM Office to assist with electrical handling through the distribution of solar panel lamps, while the Head of BPBA will focus on logistics distribution for the residents,” he said.

Based on field observations, the infrastructure access to Sekumur Village still requires serious repairs. In addition to road access, the condition of residential housing and various other public facilities is still in the recovery stage.

“We hope that KAGMA’s presence in Sekumur Village can provide motivation and alleviate the burden on the local community during the post-disaster recovery process,” concluded M Nasir.
