UGM Alumni Hand Over 26 Temporary Shelters to Aceh Tamiang Disaster Victims

The Gadjah Mada University Alumni Family (KAGAMA) has handed over 26 temporary shelters (huntara) to residents affected by flooding in Sekumur Village, Sekerak District, Aceh Tamiang Regency. Aceh Regional Secretary and KAGAMA Aceh Chairman M Nasir stated that the role of UGM alumni in disaster management has been clearly demonstrated at both regional and national levels. The aid, part of the KAGAMA disaster relief programme, was handed over by Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital and PP KAGAMA Secretary General Nezar Patria, alongside UGM Rector Prof Ova Emilia and M Nasir. Nasir noted that KAGAMA has played a significant role in disaster response and, as Aceh Secretary, he is committed to contributing to post-disaster reconstruction and accelerating recovery for affected communities. He also involved the Head of the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) and the Head of the Aceh Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Office to ensure the assistance was well-targeted and integrated. The ESDM Office was asked to help address electricity needs by distributing solar panel lights, while BPBA focused on logistics distribution. Field observations indicate that road access to Sekumur Village still requires serious improvement, and housing and public facilities remain in the recovery phase. Nasir expressed hope that KAGAMA’s presence would provide motivation and ease the burden on the local community during the post-disaster recovery process.
