Udayana Military Command Claims Soldiers Were Assaulted Before Stabbing Police Officers
Kodam IX/Udayana has issued a statement regarding an alleged assault involving Indonesian Army (TNI) personnel and Brimob officers in West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). According to initial investigations, the incident began when three TNI members attended a celebration for the inauguration of a Brimob officer.
Head of Information for Kodam IX/Udayana, Colonel Inf Amrizal Nasution, said the three members of Kodim 1630/West Manggarai—Pratu IB, Pratu IW, and Pratu FR—attended the inauguration celebration for Brimob officer Bripda JG in Gorontalo Village, Komodo District, on Wednesday (10/6/2026) at 9:00 p.m. local time. ‘At that time, members of Kodim 1630/West Manggarai attended an invitation to the Brimob member inauguration celebration in Gorontalo Village, Komodo District, West Manggarai,’ he explained via a press release on Saturday (13/6/2026).
The event took place next to Pratu IW’s house. The three attended as invited guests and were welcomed by the host. However, the situation changed after Pratu IB communicated with one of the Brimob members. Shortly afterwards, all Brimob members at the location were reportedly asked to leave the event. About 30 minutes later, more than a dozen Brimob members returned to the celebration site.
Amrizal stated that several Brimob members allegedly pulled Pratu IB towards the main road, approximately 40 metres from the location. Pratu IB was then punched and beaten. ‘Pratu IW attempted to provide assistance. However, he also became a target of the beating and assault. Shortly after, IW managed to escape and ran to his parents’ house to get a karambit knife,’ Amrizal revealed.
According to witnesses FN, SBP, HP, and FSH at the scene, residents tried to stop the assault on the TNI members, but the brawl continued. Pratu IB was seen trying to save himself but was chased and beaten again. Meanwhile, Pratu IW, who was helping, also became a target of the mob attack. ‘Residents tried to intervene and asked for it to stop. However, the assault continued; one of the members fell and tried to protect his head from blows,’ he added.
Regarding the stabbing that occurred during the incident, Amrizal said Pratu IW admitted to his actions. However, according to his account, the act was committed because he felt his safety was threatened during the assault. The brawl finally stopped after shouts were heard from the stabbing victim. The victim was then evacuated to hospital for medical treatment.
Amrizal emphasised that his party is still conducting further investigations to obtain a clearer picture of the chronology, motive, and parties involved. ‘Kodam IX/Udayana is committed to upholding the principles of objectivity, transparency, and professionalism in handling this case,’ he added. Currently, Subdenpom IX/1-1 Ende is conducting a series of investigations, including processing the crime scene, examining witnesses, coordinating with Kodim 1630/West Manggarai and Brimob Company 1 of Pioneer Battalion B of the NTT Regional Police, and monitoring the victim’s condition. ‘Likewise for other parties, if proven, the legal process must proceed fairly, objectively, and proportionally,’ he concluded.
Previously, several Brimob officers from the NTT Regional Police were involved in a brawl with Indonesian Army soldiers in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, NTT. Four Brimob members were allegedly stabbed by three TNI soldiers in the bloody incident. ‘The case is still under investigation,’ said Head of Public Relations for the NTT Regional Police, Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra, on Thursday (11/6/2026). Henry revealed that the case began when several Brimob personnel attended a thanksgiving mass for the inauguration of Brimob member Bripda JGR in Waemata Hamlet, Gorontalo Village, on Wednesday night (10/6). Initially, the event proceeded safely and with a family atmosphere. After midnight, a misunderstanding occurred between the Brimob officers and several TNI soldiers at the location, leading to an unavoidable argument that ended in a stabbing. As a result of the brawl, Bripda RS, Bribda FA, Bripda BBK, and another Brimob officer became victims of assault, suffering stab wounds to the back. According to Henry, several personnel at the scene immediately intervened to prevent the situation from escalating. ‘Our main focus now is ensuring that all injured personnel receive proper medical treatment at Siloam Labuan Bajo Hospital,’ said Henry.
