Donna Ekawaty, a lecturer in the Tourism Study Programme at Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI), has officially completed the 41st Batch of the Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Strengthening of National Values, organised by the National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia (Lemhannas RI). The training took place over nine days, from 7 to 16 September, at the Lemhannas RI Headquarters in Central Jakarta.

Participation in this training serves as a significant momentum to strengthen the understanding of national insight and align it with the development of the tourism sector in Indonesia. Donna stated that the training provided new experiences and perspectives in understanding national values, ensuring they are not merely theoretical knowledge but are manifested in daily actions.

“For me, participating in the Lemhanness RI National Values Strengthening Training of Trainers has been an extremely valuable experience. This activity provides a broader perspective that national values should not only be knowledge, but must be realised in our mindset, attitude, and actions in everyday life,” Donna said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (16/9/2026).

She added that this aligns with the direction of the Governor of Lemhannas RI, noting that trainers play a strategic role in transforming national values to the wider public and the nation’s future generations.

As an academic working in the tourism field, Donna emphasised that national resilience is closely linked to the development of tourist destinations, especially in island and border regions. According to her, tourist destinations are not merely economic and recreational spaces, but are part of the nation’s ‘front porch’.

“Particularly in island and border areas, tourist destinations are not just economic and recreational spaces, but also the living space of the community and part of the nation’s front porch. Therefore, national resilience can serve as ‘Raksaka Dharma’ in the development of tourism in island regions, which must consider defence and security, territorial management, natural resources, society, culture, and environmental sustainability,” she said.

On this occasion, Donna also expressed her highest appreciation and gratitude to the Governor of Lemhannas RI, Dr. H. TB. Ace Hasan Syadzily, M.Si., and the entire Lemhannas RI staff for the knowledge, insight, and exemplary leadership provided during the training. The message to ‘never tire of cultivating and equipping oneself’ serves as a reminder for her to continue serving through the worlds of education and tourism.

Concluding her statement, Donna expressed her hope that the alumni of this training can become drivers of nationalism who implement the values of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) in their respective fields.

“My hope is that upon returning from this training, we do not stop as participants who have gained knowledge, but are able to become drivers of nationalism who bring the values of the NKRI into our respective professions and services. Specifically, within the UBSI Tourism Study Programme, which is known as a Creative Digital Campus, I am determined to apply and integrate national values and national resilience perspectives into teaching processes, curricula, and community service. For me, building Indonesian tourism means also building society, protecting the environment and culture, strengthening unity, and helping to maintain the integrity of the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” she said.
