UBSI Students Win First Place in Software Development at PIKMI 2026
BEKASI – The 2026 Indonesia Student Innovation and Creativity Exhibition (PIKMI), held at Hall C of BSI Convention Center (BSI Convex) in Kaliabang, Bekasi on Saturday, 23 May 2026, served as a platform for AI-based technological innovations by students from various Indonesian universities. In the Software Development competition category themed ‘Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Future’, a UBSI (Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika) student team secured first place by developing a digital inventory management software to assist business and SME operations. The AI-based software development competition was designed to foster student creativity, innovation, and technical skills in creating digital solutions that excel not only technologically but also deliver social, economic, and environmental benefits in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The winning UBSI team comprised Fardani Azhar, Arfandi Azhar, and Muhammad Sany from the eighth-semester Information Technology program. They developed a web-based digital inventory system to help businesses manage stock more quickly, accurately, and efficiently. ‘Many businesses and SMEs still manually record stock, leading to data errors, unmonitored stockouts, and difficulty tracking item histories. That’s why we developed a digital inventory management system to make operations faster and more accurate,’ Fardani explained. The application features product, category, and supplier management, as well as incoming and outgoing stock tracking and low-stock alerts. A major challenge for the team was maintaining accurate stock data during transactions. ‘We addressed this by implementing an inventory movement feature that automatically adjusts product stock levels and records item movement histories,’ Fardani said. In development, they used modern technologies including Laravel 12, PHP, Blade, Tailwind CSS, Vite, and Laravel Breeze authentication. Laravel was chosen for its stability, security, and suitability for database-driven applications like inventory systems. Moving forward, the team plans to add further features to optimise the software for business and SME use. ‘Future features include automatic stock reports, PDF and Excel exports, barcode or QR scanning, low-stock notifications, admin and staff roles, and sales and movement analytics,’ Fardani said. Beyond the competition, PIKMI 2026 aims to nurture innovative youth ready to create AI-driven digital solutions for future challenges. ‘Don’t fear starting with simple local problems. Innovation doesn’t need to be grand from the outset; the key is having practical, beneficial solutions that can be continuously improved,’ he added.
