Sukabumi, Indonesia – Lecturers from Bina Sarana Informatika University (UBSI), known as the Creative Digital Campus, showcased their role in supporting digital transformation within the community through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on a 2026 grant funded by DPPM Kemdiktisaintek. The event, held on Tuesday 19 May 2026 in Kampung Kutatengah RT 10 RW 004, Desa Kutasirna, Kecamatan Cisaat, Sukabumi Regency, represents a tangible step by UBSI lecturers in bringing technological innovations to the aquaculture sector and SMEs.

Under the programme titled Optimising the Productivity of Fish Cultivation at Pokdakan Teratai Fish Farm Through Aeration System and Digital Financial Management, the activity is not merely a discussion forum. Behind it lies a serious effort by UBSI lecturers to bring technology closer to the community’s needs, particularly fish farming entrepreneurs who have long faced various production and business management challenges.

The implementing team leader, Rusda Wajhillah, together with members Yuri Rahayu and Ita Yulianti, and involving students Nur Hidayat Suharlan and Rahma Sri Melati Putri, presented the concept of applying aeration technology and the digital financial management system to the Teratai Fish Farm group partners.

Rusda explained that aeration technology plays a crucial role in increasing oxygen levels in the cultivation ponds, enabling the breeding and growth phases to proceed more optimally and reducing fish mortality risks.

‘We designed this programme not only to help raise production in fish farming but also to enable entrepreneurs to adapt to developments in digital technology, especially in financial management and more modern business management,’ Rusda said in a written statement on Thursday 21 May 2026.

He added that the community service conducted by UBSI lecturers should not stop at theory. In his view, innovation must truly be a real-world solution that delivers tangible benefits to the community.

The FGD received a positive reception from Ahmad Rifa’i, head of the Pokdakan Teratai Fish Farm partner. He said that aeration technology, particularly air circulators, is indeed a key requirement to support productivity in fish farming.

‘We warmly welcome this collaboration because aeration is essential in the fish farming process, from breeding to growth. We hope the programme will help increase production and support the development of our group’s business,’ he said.

Not only focusing on improving fish farming quality, the UBSI team also presented a web-based digital financial management solution designed to help partners record business activities more neatly, efficiently, and measurably. This step is important so that SMEs in the fisheries sector can develop more adaptively in the digital era.

Interestingly, the programme does not stop at the discussion stage. The implementing team will continue through mentoring and intensive training for members of the fish farming group, including how to operate aeration equipment, maintenance, and management of the digital financial system, delivered directly so that partners can run their businesses independently.

Through this grant programme, UBSI lecturers and Sukabumi students once again demonstrate that academia is not merely a place for classroom theory. More than that, the campus acts as a bridge of innovation capable of meeting community needs in tangible ways.

As Creative Digital Campus, the Sukabumi campus of UBSI continues to encourage lecturers and students to produce works, innovations, and service programmes that have a direct impact on communities. In a fast-moving era, technology should not be the preserve of big cities but should enable small-scale fish farms that have long struggled in silence to come alive.
