UBSI Implements IoT-Based Smart-Mushroom House in Argapura Village, Bogor
A team of lecturers and students from Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) has implemented a Smart-Mushroom House innovation based on the Internet of Things (IoT) in Argapura Village, Bogor Regency, West Java.
The sustainability of the Appropriate Technology programme was reviewed directly through monitoring and evaluation activities conducted by UBSI’s Institute for Research and Community Service on Thursday (6/8/2026).
This community service programme utilises oil palm empty fruit bunch waste, processed using a shredder machine, as an independent growing medium for oyster mushrooms.
In addition to waste utilisation, IoT-based technology is applied to control and automate the microclimate of the mushroom house, particularly temperature and humidity, with precision.
The Head of the Community Service Team, Dr Taufik Baidawi, explained that the automation system and web-based monitoring interface are ready for operation. To optimise humidity, the team has introduced a refinement in the form of a booster pump for the misting irrigation system.
“By adding a booster pump, the distribution of water vapour can be dispersed finely and evenly across all growing medium racks,” said Dr Taufik during a presentation at the partner site on Saturday (15/8/2026).
He added that the mushroom house area is now also equipped with a Wi-Fi network so that farmers can monitor the physical conditions and environmental parameters of the mushroom house remotely in real time via smartphones.
Meanwhile, the implementation of this technology transfer has received a positive response from the Barokah Harapan Kita Farmers Group. The group’s chairman, Jamian, considers the integration of IoT technology and the use of palm oil waste to be a step forward for his farming group.
“We are very grateful and appreciative of the innovation from the UBSI team. We are fully committed to operating, maintaining, and continuing this programme so that it provides sustainable economic benefits for all members,” said Jamian.
Once the installation refinements are complete, this grant programme from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology will proceed to the initial planting stage of oyster mushroom spawn.
UBSI, known as a Creative Digital Campus, has also prepared technical training on operational procedures and equipment maintenance so that the local community can independently manage this digital agricultural ecosystem.
