In an increasingly open digital era, possessing good skills and achievements is apparently not enough to achieve success. A person also needs to be able to introduce their value to the public so that career, business, and self-development opportunities can open up more widely. This message was the core of the Personal Branding Seminar organised by Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) at the BSI Convention Center (BSI Convex), Kaliabang, Bekasi, West Java, on Friday (12/6/2026). The event, attended by hundreds of students and members of the public, featured Deryansha Azhary, also known as Dery Kasisolusi, Founder and CEO of Kasisolusi, as the main speaker. With an interactive delivery style that resonates with the younger generation, Dery invited participants to understand the importance of building personal branding as a key asset in facing competition in the world of work and business. According to him, many people have extraordinary abilities but are not yet able to demonstrate their competence to others. As a result, their potential often goes unnoticed and opportunities become limited. “Skills are important, but if others do not know about them, the opportunities that come will also be limited. Personal branding helps a person showcase their competence, character, and value so they are more easily recognised and trusted,” Dery told the seminar participants. In his material session, Dery explained that personal branding is not merely about becoming famous on social media. More than that, personal branding is a process for a person to be known for the benefits, competence, and value they provide to others. He also outlined six main categories for building effective personal branding: Education, Inspiration, Entertainment, Conversation, Connection, and Promotion. These six categories serve as an important framework so that a person not only appears in the digital space but also presents a clear and valuable message. He noted that many people make the mistake of immediately focusing on promotion without first building trust and value in the eyes of the audience. “The mistake many people make is focusing directly on promotion. In fact, to build a strong personal brand, a person must first provide value through education, inspiration, and interaction with the audience. Once trust is formed, promotion will come naturally,” he said. Dery added that educational content can be the main foundation for building credibility. Meanwhile, inspirational content can create emotional closeness with the audience. Entertainment, conversation, and connection can help increase interaction and build stronger relationships with the community. “In the digital era, everyone has the same opportunity to be known. What differentiates them is who is able to consistently demonstrate their value and provide benefits to others,” Dery stated. Head of UBSI Kaliabang Campus, Muhamad Tabrani, appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants attending the seminar. He assessed that personal branding skills have now become an important competency that the younger generation needs to possess. “Currently, the world of work does not only look at academic ability or technical skills alone. Companies are also looking for individuals who can communicate well, have strong character, and are able to demonstrate their competencies. Therefore, personal branding is a very important asset for students and the younger generation,” Tabrani said. He added that this seminar is part of UBSI’s commitment as a Creative Digital Campus to provide insights and skills relevant to industry needs and current professional world developments. Participant enthusiasm was evident from the many questions asked during the discussion session. Various topics, ranging from strategies for building a professional image on social media, ways to increase self-confidence, to steps for building a reputation while still in college, became discussions that attracted participants’ attention. One seminar participant, Aulia Rahma, admitted she gained a new perspective after attending the event. “I now realise that personal branding is not just about creating content on social media. What is more important is how we demonstrate our abilities and provide benefits to others. The material presented is very relevant for students who are preparing for their future,” Aulia said. This activity also served as a reminder that success in the digital era is not only determined by how great one’s abilities are, but also by how a person is able to introduce, develop, and demonstrate their value to the world. With proper personal branding, students are expected to be better prepared to face future challenges, build a reputation early on, and become superior individuals amidst changing times.
