SARAWAK - Collaborations between universities are now a crucial step in broadening global perspectives and enhancing education quality in the digital era. This is being pursued by the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics (FTI) of Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) through its International EduTrip in Sarawak, Malaysia.

During the event held on Monday, 25 May 2026, FTI UBSI explored international collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FSKTM) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). The activity, titled ‘Enhancing Global Insight in Digital Learning and Information Systems’, was organised by UBSI Pontianak’s Informatics Study Programme as part of efforts to expand academic collaboration at the international level.

The agenda served not only as an academic visit but also as an opportunity for strategic collaboration between the two institutions in information technology and information systems. UBSI was represented by FTI Dean Rachmat Adi Purnama and Pontianak Informatics Study Programme Head Muhammad Sony Maulana, while UNIMAS was represented by FSKTM Dean Jane Labadin and faculty leadership.

Potential collaboration areas include student exchange programmes, joint research between faculty and students, and community service initiatives between UBSI and UNIMAS.

Rachmat stated that the initiative is a strategic step to strengthen international networks and enhance the academic quality of students and staff.

‘We hope this collaboration will be the starting point for various collaborative programmes that benefit both students and lecturers, particularly in developing global competencies in digital learning and information systems,’ he said in a written statement on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Meanwhile, FSKTM UNIMAS welcomed the collaboration initiative and is open to broader academic, research, and information technology innovation collaborations between the two institutions.

Through this International EduTrip, UBSI, as an Accredited Excellent Digital Creative Campus, not only provides cross-border learning experiences for students but also reinforces its commitment to supporting higher education internationalisation and global collaboration amid rapid digital transformation.
