Former Chairman of the Law Faculty Student Executive Board (BEM) at Bung Karno University (UBK), Muhammad Abdimaludin, has come under scrutiny after admitting he received Rp 20 million to refrain from demonstrating in front of the Presidential Palace. The student, familiarly known as Abdi, is originally from Ngali Village, Belo District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

“That’s correct. I was born and raised in Ngali Village, Bima Regency, NTB,” Abdi said when confirmed via WhatsApp on Friday (26/6/2026).

Abdi was reluctant to comment extensively on his admission of receiving the money to change the protest location. Nevertheless, he expressed hope that students would continue to oversee and criticise government policies. He even advised students to stand in solidarity and not be easily provoked.

“Solidarity is very important so that we, as fellow students, are not easily divided and provoked by irresponsible individuals or parties,” said the eighth-semester student, born in 2001.

Abdi confirmed that he has been dismissed as chairman of the UBK Law Faculty BEM. While awaiting the results of an internal investigation by UBK, Abdi stated that he is currently focusing on writing his thesis.

“I have handed everything over to the UBK investigation team. Whatever the results and decisions may be, I am responsible and will accept them with an open heart,” Abdi said.

Previously, Abdi admitted to receiving Rp 20 million to change the student demonstration location from the Presidential Palace area to the House of Representatives (DPR) building. The university immediately suspended Abdi from his position as chairman of the Law Faculty BEM and launched an internal investigation.

“In this case, we have summoned the Chairman of the Law Faculty BEM, Mr Abdi. He has made an official admission to the university that he received money amounting to Rp 20 million,” said UBK Vice Rector III Daniel Panda on Tuesday (23/6).

According to him, Abdi admitted to receiving the money through a senior alumnus of the UBK Law Faculty. The money was given ahead of a student action involving several BEMs within UBK. Abdi also admitted to distributing the money to a number of students.

“Today, in accordance with the Rector’s statement, we have suspended the individual concerned. Consequently, he can no longer represent himself as the BEM Chairman until this investigation process is completed,” Daniel said.
