UBK Rectorate: Sanctions for BEM Officials Await Investigation

Wakil Rektor III Universitas Bung Karno, Daniel Panda, explained that the institution has not yet imposed sanctions on the student executive board (BEM) officials who admitted to accepting bribes during a demonstration titled “Tata Ulang Indonesia”. He stated that UBK is still conducting an investigation, even though several BEM officials have confessed to receiving the money. The investigation is deemed necessary to ascertain the valid facts on the ground. “We will investigate, ask several students. Only then will we impose sanctions,” Daniel said during a press conference at the UBK Campus, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, 23 June 2026. He noted that the severity of the sanctions to be imposed on BEM officials proven to have committed violations or tarnished the alma mater will consider the magnitude of the offence committed. “The imposition of sanctions is in accordance with the regulations applicable at UBK,” Daniel stated. In a separate occasion, the UBK Student Forum urged the Rectorate to take firm action against the BEM officials who admitted to receiving bribes during the demonstration. UBK students also demanded the naming of these BEM officials, including Muhammad Abdimaludi (Chairman of BEM FH); Rafly Maulana Akbar (Vice Chairman of BEM FH); Mubarak Tuasamu (BEM FH Official); Pujiono (Chairman of BEM FE); and Muhammad Rafi Bastian (Vice Chairman of BEM FE). The students urged the Rectorate to annul the Bung Karno teachings grades (1-4) and assign an E grade to those involved, as well as to return state funds for those receiving the KIP-K scholarship programme. “UBK students have set a deadline of ten working days, starting from Monday, 22 June 2026 until 6 July 2026. This demand is binding for all relevant parties,” the student demands stated. A video clip featuring the confession of the BEM FH Chairman accepting bribes surfaced on social media. The Rectorate stated that, based on the confession, they received Rp 20 million in bribes during the 15 June demonstration. The money was given by an alumnus through the police, with the request that the demonstration not be held in the State Palace area, but rather at the DPR, MPR, and DPD Complex. During the “Tata Ulang Indonesia” demonstration, BEM UBK also accepted an invitation for closed mediation with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The mediation lasted about 60 minutes and was attended by 15 student representatives. BEM FH Chairman Muhammad Abdimaludin claimed the mediation with Gibran would not cause BEM UBK to lose its objectives. “If the demands are not met within 5x24 hours, we will conduct rolling demonstrations,” he said after the mediation at the Vice Presidential Palace, Monday, 15 June 2026.
