UBK Rectorate: Sanctions for BEM Officials Await Investigation
The Vice Rector III of Bung Karnerm University, Daniel Panda, explained the reasons why his institution has not yet imposed sanctions on the officials of the Student Executive Body (BEM) who admitted to receiving bribes during the demonstration titled “Tata Ulang Indonesia”.
He stated that UBK is currently conducting an investigation process, even though several BEM officials have admitted to receiving bribe money. The investigation is essential to ensure the authenticity of the facts on the ground.
“We will investigate and interview several students. Only then will we impose sanctions,” said Daniel during a press conference at the UBK Campus, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
He further noted that the severity of the sanctions imposed by the university on BEM officials proven to have committed violations or tarnished the university’s reputation will depend on the level of fault. “The imposition of sanctions will be in accordance with the prevailing regulations at UBK,” Daniel added.
On a separate occasion, the UBK Student Forum urged the Rectorate to take firm action against the BEM officials who admitted to receiving bribes during the demonstration.
UBK students also demanded the public listing of the names of the BEM officials involved, including Muhammad Abdimaludi (Chair of BEM FH); Rafly Maulana Akbar (Vice Chair of BEM FH); Mubarak Tuasamu (BEM FH official); Pujiono (Chair of BEM FE); and Muhammad Rafi Bastian (Vice Chair of BEM FE).
Furthermore, UBK students are calling for the Rectorate to annul their Bung Karno teaching grades (1-4) and assign them an ‘E’ grade, as well as the return of state funds for those receiving the KIP-K scholarship programme.
“UBK students have provided a deadline of ten working days, starting from Monday, 22 June 2026, until 6 July 2026. This demand is binding for all related parties,” the UBK Student demand statement read.
Video clips showing the admission of the Chair of BEM FH UBK receiving bribes have surfaced on social media. The Rectorate stated that, based on the individual’s confession, they received bribes amounting to Rp 20 million during the demonstration on 15 June.
The money was allegedly provided by certain alumni via the police, with a request that the demonstration not be held in the Istana Negara area, but rather at the DPR, MPR, and DPD complex.
During the demonstration titled “Tata Ulang Indonesia”, the UBK BEM also accepted an invitation for closed mediation with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The mediation lasted approximately 60 minutes and was attended by 15 student representatives.
The Chair of BEM FH UBK, Muhammad Abdimaludin, claimed that the mediation with Gibran would not cause BEM UBK to lose sight of its objectives. “Within 5x24 hours, if our demands are not met, we will conduct a series of subsequent demonstrations,” he said following the mediation at the Vice President’s Palace on Monday, 15 June 2026.
