UBK Law Faculty BEM Chair Admits Accepting Rp 20 Million to Avoid Palace Protest
The chairman of the Bung Karno University (UBK) Law Faculty Student Executive Board (BEM), M Abdimaludin, has admitted to receiving Rp 20 million allegedly given to change the location of a student demonstration from the Presidential Palace area to the DPR RI building. Following this admission, the university has suspended Abdimaludin from his position and launched an internal investigation.
The confession was conveyed by UBK Vice Rector III Daniel Panda during a press conference at the UBK campus in Cikini, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
“In this case, we have summoned the Law Faculty BEM chairman, Saudara Abdi. He has made an official admission to the university that he received Rp 20 million,” Daniel stated.
According to Daniel, Abdimaludin admitted to receiving the money through a senior alumnus of the UBK Law Faculty. The money was handed over shortly before a student action involving several BEMs within UBK.
“Through an individual who is a senior alumnus of the UBK Law Faculty, delivered by an individual from the police force. So there is an admission from the person concerned,” Daniel said.
Daniel explained that based on Abdimaludin’s admission, the money was given with a message that the students should not hold a demonstration near the Presidential Palace.
“From the person’s admission, the money was handed over in the early hours of Monday, ahead of the student action by several BEMs at UBK, with a note that they should not demonstrate at the Palace. They were advised by the alumnus to demonstrate at the DPR RI,” he continued.
Despite receiving the money, Abdimaludin reportedly did not comply with the request. UBK students still moved towards the Palace area to voice their aspirations.
“However, that was rejected by the person concerned. So the students still went to the Palace, even though they received the money. That is a direct admission from the BEM chairman,” he said.
Daniel stated that the university has taken the initial step of suspending Abdimaludin from his position as Law Faculty BEM chairman until the investigation is complete.
“Today, in accordance with the Rector’s statement, we have suspended the person concerned. So the person concerned can no longer act on behalf of himself as BEM chairman until this investigation process is finished,” he said.
In the same press conference, UBK Rector Sri Mumpuni Ngesti Rahaju stressed that the presence of several students at a meeting with the Vice President on 15 June 2026 was not under a campus mandate.
“Bung Karno University emphasises that the presence of several students on 15 June 2026 in a meeting with the Vice President was purely the aspiration of several faculty BEMs within Bung Karno University and was not based on an assignment or mandate from Bung Karno University,” Sri said.
Sri stated that UBK respects students’ rights to express their aspirations. However, all actions and statements made during such activities are the responsibility of those involved.

She also stressed that the university will not tolerate any form of academic violation and will impose sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations.
