UBK Investigates Bribery Case, Warns Student Leaders Could Face Expulsion
Bung Karno University (UBK) is investigating an alleged bribery case involving the Chairman of the Law Faculty’s Student Executive Body (BEM), Muhammad Abdimaludin. Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Daniel George Hendrik Panda, stated that a team has examined several individuals suspected of involvement in the case. “The investigation is targeted to conclude in early July,” Daniel told Tempo at the UBK campus in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. The investigation team, led by UBK Ethics Commission Chairman Eko Suryo Santjoyo, is continuing to gather and verify information from various sources. Daniel said the results of the investigation will serve as a basis for UBK to determine sanctions for the students involved. “The investigation and the ethics hearing will be conducted transparently and objectively,” Daniel stated. Daniel explained that the sanctions will be applied according to the regulations, with the heaviest penalty being expulsion from the university. The campus is under pressure to dishonourably discharge the students involved. “(Will there be a drop out sanction?) All possibilities are always on the table,” said the former Dean of the UBK Law Faculty. Previously, BEM FH UBK Chairman Muhammad Abdimaludin admitted to receiving Rp 20 million during a BEM UBK demonstration held on Monday, 15 June. He claimed the money was given by police officers through a UBK alumnus in the early hours before the “Tata Ulang Indonesia” demonstration. The payment was intended to change the demonstration location from the State Palace to the front of the DPR, MPR, and DPD complex. Several UBK students were also received by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka during the protest. Following this admission, the UBK Student Forum urged the Rectorate to take firm action against the BEM officials who confessed to accepting the bribe. The BEM officials named as having received the bribe include Abdimaludin; Rafly Maulana Akbar (Deputy Chairman of BEM FH); Mubarak Tuasamu (BEM FH Official); Pujiono (Chairman of BEM FE); and Muhammad Rafi Bastian (Deputy Chairman of BEM FE). UBK students also demanded the Rectorate assign an E grade to those involved and require the return of funds for BEM officials who received the KIP-Kuliah scholarship. “UBK students are giving a deadline of 10 working days, starting from Monday, 22 June 2026 until 6 July 2026. This demand is binding for all related parties,” the UBK students’ demands stated.
